VILLAGE PEOPLE IULIAN MEETS FAMOUS DIRECTOR MATEI 'HAND-HELD' MOCANU AND DP DAVID 'BLOGSPOT' LEE FORMERLY KNOWN AS 'NO LEI'

What's in the title is an inside-joke, which obviously nobody else can fully appreciate, except the parties involved. One of the reasons that I hate (and that I also love) working with digital video is that you start getting lazy: 'keep'em rollin, it's only digital, for fuckssake' and you end up with 4 hours of footage for a 5-minute vid. Footage which you can barley sit through. Four stylistic approaches, all bad, for a 5-minute video? I could make 4 videos instead of just one. By the look of it, it'll be very disjointed. But we'll call it 'edgy'. Or 'arty'. Or plainly 'queer'.

Production Update!

First, the new website is up and ready to rock. If you want to see gallons of pixels, some in static, textual form whilst others are in vibrant mobile filmic form), please rip-rock-roll on over to http://www.iceblockfilms.com.

Oh, and if you want to hire us, we're available for events and children's birthday parties (yeah, we can juggle and do magic tricks too).

While I wasn't stuck in my chair working on the webpage, we've been romping around Japan trying to meet a sudden demand for our services.

i am not hardcore

1. heavy night last night, leaving the bubbling beverage to cool, lots of wasted scenesters and hipsters, wasteland in a squat (actually it's an old castle now being renovated)
2. discovered recently magnus renfors, whose brilliant promos for tiger lou are among the most beautiful things i've seen in a while (thanks to the antvilleans for this)
3. tricky, oh tricky. his music rocks, but his stage performance is far from stellar. went to his gig and left disappointed - watching people getting stoned on stage is no longer fun, i'm too old for this.

No more freebies!

I've hit a wall. Reached a point. Crossed a line.
I've done all the favours I want to and now it's time to get PAID!

Well. That's what I've been telling myself for a while. And I suppose it's slowly coming true. However, sometimes things just... come along that make you just drop that all aside...'one last time' right?

My First Birthday

The stomping ground is the micro-cosm that is the 'British-Asian' scene (or whatever the latest tag for it is), with a young filmmaker hungry for his first clip... It's around this time last year I began my ventures into music video, so I'm either just shy of a 1st Birthday or just past...

this week i made three shortlists in a row.
i lost them all.
and tonight.
i found out that i won a filmaka contest.
so i guess it's one of the occasions when my incurable optimism does pay off.

is it campy enough for you? is it an all-gay boy-band? (redundancy in terms?) 70's porn? dinner at butch's?
depicted in the photo, the most radical part of studiosex, enjoying their break. please notice the very special camera mount,custom-designed for special positions. also pay close attention to the eerie greenish light and the flying saucer hovering in the b.g.

And some screen grabs from my latest video, to be launched sometime in December.

And now for something completely different...After all the drama and high cinematic art of the (still pre-release) "Leeds United" and "Last Words" videos, me and the gang wanted to cut loose and do something silly and irresponsible. Luckily, Manda Rin, quite literally one of the nicest people I have ever met, hearts the silly and wholeheartedly embraced the idea of a cheeky, J-pop-style innuendo-fest with VERY. BRIGHT. COLOURS. Hope you will too.

Too many parties this weekend. We're making our main business out of shooting parties and cutting promos for organizers around Tokyo. It's really sweet because we just stroll into any old VIP section that we want at any old party. Last Thursday, we shot a 2000+ people/five stories of a building rented Halloween party. Lots of fantastic costumes and a great energy.

Anyway, we're doing another party tonight. It's a slightly smaller affair. But, the same organizer.

First thing's first. While it may look like this is a 3-camera shoot, it's just 2 cameras.
This was my first (official) live filming and commision and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

At first I just read briefs as they came up, not really thinking of applying for any.
Just thought of the site to be a great idea so I followed the happenings on it.
But when I read the brief for this one, I had an idea that I wanted to try, and if the idea was liked, well, maybe I could actually do it.
